Conventional radios simply send out their transmissions in every direction from their antenna when the user is holding down the “Push To Talk” button.
With the A50P, when a radio in a group picks up an incoming transmission from another A50P, it instantly re-transmits it, so “relaying” the message on to other radios nearby.
So, if you had a 4 floor building, and you could only get a radio signal from ground to second floor, or from top floor down to second floor, if you had a meshing radio on the second floor, it would act as a relay, allowing the radio users on the ground and top floor to communicate properly. Each Talkpod radio instantly relays the message on the next one in range, thus increasing the overall area and range of the whole group of Talkpod meshing radios.
Users could just rely on individual users moving around the whole area to provide complete coverage.
Or, they could just position one meshing radio permanently in a central location where it would act as a very cheap but effective “repeater” for the other radios in the premises or location.
The Talkpod A50P walkie-talkie radios can “relay” messages over 2 or 3 “hops” meaning that provided that there are other Talkpod walkie-talkies positioned in between two radios at either edge of an area, radio messages can be sent over quite long distances.
